National Council of Nonprofits’ Leading from Strength Program Receives Substantial Support from Fidelity Charitable Trustees’ Initiative

The National Council of Nonprofits (NCN) announced it has received a $3.3 million multi-year grant from the Fidelity Charitable Trustees’ Initiative (FCTI) to launch its Leading from Strength program.

Leading from Strength is designed to reinforce and expand the work of state associations of nonprofits, ensuring that nonprofits in communities across the country have the information and resources they need to advance their missions. Building on NCN’s more than thirty years of connecting, championing, and informing nonprofits, this initiative will ensure a strong network to aid nonprofits as they navigate continuing challenges.

The Fidelity Charitable Trustees’ Initiative has supported NCN since 2017 as part of FCTI’s efforts to ensure nonprofits have the resources they need to run thriving organizations. FCTI is a grantmaking program at Fidelity Charitable, separate from its donor-advised fund program.

“Simply put, the network of the National Council of Nonprofits delivers,” said Tony Bowen, Vice President at Fidelity Charitable. “The nonprofit sector would be in a much different place today without the work of NCN and the state associations of nonprofits over the last several years. There are more challenges on the horizon, and it is vital that frontline community-based organizations have strong supports in place through their state associations of nonprofits. The Fidelity Charitable Trustees are pleased to provide the initial funding so the National Council of Nonprofits can transform its plan into reality, and we hope other funders will join us by strengthening their local state association of nonprofits.”

“People tend to focus their attention on what’s happening in Washington, DC, but the real action is in the states. That truth will be compounded and much more obvious soon, given the trend of recent Supreme Court decisions and with divided government over the next couple years,” said Tim Delaney, President & CEO of the National Council of Nonprofits. “The Leading from Strength program will allow us to make strategic investments in our nationwide network of nonprofits that will foster collaboration, innovation, and the long-term health of the state associations of nonprofits and their leaders.”

“We’re thankful that the Fidelity Charitable Trustees’ Initiative shares our understanding that, because people across the country rely on their local small and midsized community-based nonprofits, those organizations need strong state associations of nonprofits that provide capacity-building training, educational convenings, information, advocacy, and more. Through strengthening those supports, nonprofits will be better able to serve their communities,” Delaney added.
